SUMSUM ISLAND - This island of great historic interest is only 3 miles in front of Daruba town. It is a small islet with a beach of fine, white sand. General Douglas Mc Arthur, commander of the Allied Forces in the Asia Pacific region during World War II once stayed on this island. There are several relics of the war here, such as a bunker that served as headquarters, and the landing site of amphibious ships.
TOBOTOBO MARINE PARK - Off Tobotobo village in Loloda Islands district, this place has a beautiful coral reef perfect for diving and snorkelling. There are also thousands of fruit-bats that make spend the day roosting in the mangroves here. Another interesting place near Tobotobo is a spot where the wild green and white pigeons are said to go to bathing!
BOBALE ISLAND - Bobale is a small island not far off the coast at Daru village in Kao district. The island is sorrounded by white sand beaches and is a favorite of divers thanks to its splendid coral gardens. Colorful, divers marine life can be found in depths of 2-10 metres. There are several dive sites around Bobale, and the visibility here is generally excellent.
DUMA-GALELA LAKE - Duma-Galela Lake is the biggest freshwater lake in Halmahera island and is historically important for the local people. It offers beautiful, natural views. The water is clear, therefore suitable for swimming, fishing and canoeing. Locals also use bamboo rafts on the lake. Nearby are the similar, but smaller crater lakes of Makete and Ngidiho.
