TOLU, The tolu is the conical hat used by the people of North Halmahera when working on the fields or going fishing. It’s made from dried skin of banana plants. The shape is similar to those of hats used by farmers elsewhere in Indonesia. These hats are used by all ethnic groups of North Halmahera and serve as protection from sun and rain.
SUSIRU AND AYAAYA, Susiru dan Ayaaya dibuat dengan memanfaatkan kulit bambu yang sudah kering. Dalam pembuatannya biasanya kulit bambu tersebut akan diberi zat pewarna dan dianyam sesuai bentuk yang diinginkan. Ukuran dan corak pada Susiru dan Ayaaya biasanya sangat beragam. Susiru berguna untuk menapis beras sedangkan Ayaaya untuk menyaring air terigu.
RATTAN PLATE, As the name suggests, these plates are made from rattan. Before putting food on them these plates are usually covered with banana leaves.
POROCOSIGI, The bottle-shaped porocosigi is made from dried pandanus leaves. The upper part is usually decorated with dyed woka leaves. Traditionally, the porocosigi is used as a rice-container during traditional wedding ceremonies, and can hold up to 10 kilos of rice.
