DENGEDENGE DANCE, Like the Tidetide, the Dengedenge is a North Halmaheran courtship dance which is usually accompanied by pantun-style love songs. Unlike during the Tidetide, the dancers of the Dengedenge stand in lines facing each other thoughout the dance. The accompanying gong and drum music is played by a group of three, the singing is performed by two while the dance itself is by a group of four men and four women. The movements of this dance are consider particularly refined.
HITADI BAMBOO MUSIC, As the name suggests, the instruments of the Hitadi Bamboo Music are tubes of bamboo. This type of music is only found in North Halmahera and played by a group of 15 musician and singers.
BAMBU TIUP MUSIC, The bambu tiup music is a popular form of entertaiment in North Halmahera. The instrument is made from bamboo and is played by a group of 20-30 musicians. Unlike the hitadi bambu music, this one isn’t accompanied by singing and can be combined with other instruments such as flutes.
HIBUALAMO TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL, The Hibualamo festival is usually performed on 31st May in Tobelo town. It accompanies the inauguration of traditional adat leaders. The celebration starts with a procession of participants walking right arround the town before arriving at the Hibualamo traditional house. The leader will wear fine traditional costume and will be seated on a chair carried by 4-8 people. Various traditional performances such as Cakalele, Tidetide and Dengedenge dances will be performed during the festival.
